Calculate the force exerted on a current-carrying wire by an external magnetic field.
Last updated: March 2026 | By ForgeCalc Engineering
When a current-carrying wire is placed in a magnetic field, the moving charges within the wire experience a magnetic force. This force is perpendicular to both the direction of the current and the direction of the magnetic field.
The maximum force occurs when the wire is perpendicular to the field (90°). If the wire is parallel to the field (0° or 180°), the magnetic force is zero.
