Calculate paint needed for walls and ceilings
1 coat: touch-ups only. 2 coats: standard (primer + finish). 3+ coats: dark colors, low-sheen, glossy surfaces, or stain bleed-through. Primer required on new drywall, plaster, stains, or major color changes (dark to light). One coat primer + two finish = most durable. High-quality primer = better coverage, fewer finish coats needed.
Standard coverage is 350-400 sq ft per gallon. Textured walls or rough surfaces will reduce coverage significantly.
It is always better to have a little extra paint for touch-ups. Round up to the nearest whole gallon for your final purchase.
This is an estimate only. Actual paint coverage depends on surface texture, porosity, color, paint type (matte/satin/gloss), and application method. Textured drywall, brick, and porous surfaces consume significantly more paint than smooth surfaces. Always test coverage on your specific surface and add extra for contingencies.
