Calculate the force multiplication factor of a machine or mechanism.
Last updated: March 2026 | By ForgeCalc Engineering
Mechanical advantage (MA) is a measure of the force amplification achieved by using a tool, mechanical device, or machine system. It allows a small input force to produce a much larger output force.
The Ideal Mechanical Advantage (IMA) assumes no friction and is based on the ratio of distances. The Actual Mechanical Advantage (AMA) is based on the measured forces and accounts for energy losses like friction.
