Inclined Plane Physics

An inclined plane is a flat surface tilted at an angle. Gravity acts downwards, but can be resolved into two components: one parallel to the plane and one perpendicular (normal) to it.

The parallel component causes the object to accelerate down the plane, while the normal component is balanced by the normal force from the surface.

The Formulas

F_|| = m * g * sin(θ)
F_n = m * g * cos(θ)
a = g * sin(θ)
  • F_|| = Parallel Force (N)
  • F_n = Normal Force (N)
  • a = Acceleration (m/s²)
  • θ = Angle of inclination (°)
