Average percentage is the arithmetic mean of multiple percentage values. It treats every value equally and is useful when you want a single percentage that represents a group of percentages.
The calculator is designed for simple averaging, not weighted averages. That means each percentage contributes the same amount to the final result.
This works the same way as any arithmetic mean: add the percentages together, then divide by how many percentages you entered.
A simple average gives each percentage the same importance. A weighted average gives some values more influence than others, usually because they represent larger groups or different proportions.
This calculator uses the simple average, so every percentage matters equally no matter where it appears in the list.
A simple average is appropriate when each percentage is intended to receive equal weight. If the percentages are rates from groups of different sizes and you want the combined underlying rate, weighting by the relevant group sizes is usually required.
The correct weight depends on what each percentage represents; group size is a common weight for combining rates, but it is not universal.
In this calculator, 80 and 80% are intentionally interpreted as the same percentage value: 80%. The percent sign is optional input syntax, not a request to convert 80% to the decimal 0.8.
That makes the input flexible while still keeping the result in percent form.
The numeric percentage values 80, 90, 85, and 95 sum to 350 percentage points; dividing by 4 gives the simple average.
For any finite list with equal positive weights, the arithmetic mean lies between the minimum and maximum; here 87.5% lies between 80% and 95%.
The calculator does not force inputs into the 0%–100% interval. Percentages above 100% and negative percentages are meaningful in some contexts, such as percentage change.
Whether a particular percentage is valid therefore depends on the quantity you are averaging. For bounded quantities such as exam scores, values outside the allowed domain should be rejected by the user’s underlying data rules.
Can I include % symbols?
Yes. Values like 80 and 80% are both accepted.
What if I enter a bad value?
The calculator rejects the entire list and shows an error.
Does this calculate a weighted average?
No. Every percentage is treated equally.
Can I use decimals?
Yes. Finite decimal and scientific-notation percentages are accepted; results are displayed to at most eight decimal places.
